Dry Cleaners Fire Damages Three Shops

A city firefighter is in position for maximum effect Wednesday as dozens of personnel battle a blaze at a dry cleaners in Thousand Oaks.

A fire broke out at a dry cleaning business in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday, taking dozens of firefighters nearly two hours to put the flames out.

The blaze also damaged several other businesses in the strip mall at 2524 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

Flames were reported at about 11:34 a.m. and were doused by about 1:30 p.m.

One of the business owners sustained minor injuries, but refursed medical transport, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Driver Evacuates Passengers as Fire Engulfs Bus!

BILOXI — When driver Roy McLaurin Jr. of Collins realized his shuttle bus was on fire, he pulled into a nearby parking lot and immediately began evacuating passengers, including two in wheelchairs.

“I took a right, going on Popp’s Ferry Road and I seen smoke, so I pulled over and I started unloading all of the patients,” McLaurin said. “By that time, (the van) had blazed up in fire and I had two (people in) wheelchairs that I had to get out. I had to pick up two of them out of their wheelchairs.”

Police Sgt. Bennie Hickman said the cause of the Friday-afternoon fire aboard the DJ Shuttle & Tour Service bus was still unknown, but the driver and five assisted-living passengers were fortunate to get out safely.

“An officer on scene said if it wouldn’t have been for the bus driver and the other passenger,” Hickman said, “someone could have really been hurt. It was nothing, then it was a raging inferno.” Hickman said two oxygen tanks on the bus were believed to have exploded during the fire.

“After they got everybody off the bus, they looked back and the entire bus was in flames,” he said.

Hickman said the bus was a total loss. “When I got ready to get the wheelchair, (the fire) had blazed up in the front. I was just trying to get the patients off,” McLaurin said. “That’s all I was thinking about, their lives, because I don’t believe I would live with myself if I had left the ones that were in the wheelchair and couldn’t walk.”

A school bus fire on I-44 westbound near the Antire Rd. entrance ramp stopped traffic and stranded thousands of commuters Friday evening.

At 5:00 p.m., the back-up on I-44 ran from Antire Rd. nearly to Hwy. 141.

The school bus had the markings of “Parkway School District.”

This bus is fully engulfed! It looks like one of the buses that transports passengers to the parking or rental lots.

A Kansas City Area Transportation Authority bus caught fire Sunday outside Terminal C at Kansas City International Airport. The driver was the only person aboard and was not injured.

A plume of black smoke Sunday near Kansas City International Airport had some people thinking a plane must have crashed.

Nope, just an Kansas City Area Transportation Authority bus on fire. The driver was the only person on the bus and he escaped without injury.

The incident slowed traffic approaching Terminal C and some passengers were asked to stay inside because of smoke.
